Band Member Testimonials
"I heard the New Horizons Band of Canton needed a clarinet player, so I dusted it off (after 30 years!) and tried the "freebie night"- now I am a regular. The group is soooo much fun, the music is enjoyable, and it's great to be playing again. I feel privileged to be under the direction of Lauren Erickson- she makes the atmosphere of learning in class and our performances a true joy!" ~Gayle
"I picked up my instrument after taking a 30-year break. It's the best thing I ever did! Band is helping me to strengthen my counting skills, sight-reading skills and intonation. The New Horizons Band of Canton is a learning band that has allowed me to progress musically in a supportive, teaching environment." ~Lori
"For 35-plus years of performing as a professional musician, I totally relied on playing by ear. Granted, while that was a blessing, there were times when it also became a hindrance. Joining the New Horizons Band allowed me to face my fears with regard to the idea of "sight-reading". I still have a long way to go, but I can honestly say that I have made steady progress in that area. It has been through the diligent efforts put forth by our instructor Lauren Erickson, that I have porgressed as far as I have. I think that aspect is one reason why the New Horizons Band stands out far beyond that of other similar ensembles. ~Bob
"I am a long time professional musician that couldn't read a note of music. Lauren has been patient and helped me with my sight-reading and theory. Canton New Horizons Band had been a huge help. ~Greg
"Played clarinet 30+ years ago and always wanted to try to play it again. This class was just what I was looking for. We have a great time. No pressure and everyone is very helpful and friendly." ~Janet
"This music class is a lot of fun! It's awesome! And the instructors are the best!" ~Steve
"In the past I was always told that sight reading would get easier, when I did more of it.(!?)
This is the first band I’ve been in where difficult rhythms are explained. Lauren does an excellent job as a teacher, staying at it, until you get it. ~Jim
